Pure Gold – Upcycled! Upgraded!

The design exhibition »Pure Gold – Upcycled! Upgraded!« is an international touring exhibition initiated by the ifa (Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations) and conceived by Volker Albus, which celebrated its premiere in September 2017 at the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe in Hamburg. So far, it has also been shown in London, Bangkok, Yangon, Hanoi, Manila and São Paulo and presents a new global generation of designers who work in an ecologically and ethically sustainable way.
The exhibition theme of upcycling – the reuse of already processed raw materials to create new, higher-quality objects – is intended to raise awareness of alternative production techniques and at the same time point to current European and non-European design developments.
The concept of the exhibition architecture is closely related to the theme of the exhibition itself in transforming the transport crates of the exhibits, which are covered with sleeves made of the naturally obtained material jute, into presentation boxes and spaces – an act of upcycling the crates.
